Requirements for Insulators in Power Systems and Operating Environments
2025-12-02
According to the requirements for insulators based on power system specifications and operating environmental conditions, overhead transmission lines in China are equipped with suspension porcelain, glass, and composite insulators rated for AC 10–1000 kV and 70–530 kN, as well as DC ±500–±1000 kV and 160–530 kN. Substations and converter stations are fitted with outdoor and indoor rod-type post insulators rated for AC 35–1000 kV and 2–25 kN, and DC ±500–±1000 kV and 2–25 kN. These insulators can have structural heights exceeding 10 meters and average diameters ranging from 300 to 600 mm. Substations and converter stations also utilize hollow insulators in electrical equipment such as circuit breakers, load switches, disconnecting switches, earthing switches, current transformers, and power transformers, which are rated for AC 10–1000 kV and DC ±500 kV to ±1000 kV. Such hollow insulators can attain structural heights of over 10.5 meters and average diameters exceeding 900 mm. Additionally, insulators must come in standard shapes, aerodynamic or open-umbrella designs, anti-fog shapes, alternating-umbrella designs, double-umbrella designs, and triple-umbrella designs.
